Toshiba Portege M400-S5032 user reviews
I've been craving a Tablet PC for awhile. If Apple produced one it would have been an obvious choice. I selected this model for the Core 2 Duo processor and thought I would bite-the-bullet and try Vista. Well, Microsoft has done it again; OS as virus. I'm using the system right now. Running nothing more than Vista and Firefox the resource monitor lists 86 processes and 81% memory utilization (1GB installed). That is after stripping out a number of extra virus and spyware tools and replacing them with leaner (free) versions. Toshiba loads a utility, for BIOS-like functions, that is available by pointing at the top of the screen. It works half of the time, and then locks up and stops responding. As for the hardware, the unit is heavy and thick. The trackpad is small, the mouse buttons are small and awkwardly placed. Several of the keys are in creative locations (windows key, delete key, etc.). My next system will be MacBook Pro (elegant and functional hardware) with dual-boot or parallels running OS X (elegant and functional) and XP (simply functional). Table features are nice - but not worth the drawbacks."
I thought that it was time to upgrade from my old tablet PC {M200} to this model. I am generally pleased so far since I am now familar with using the Toshiba tablet PC. Had Windows XP on the old machine and Vista buisness came installed on this one. I am still geting use to finding my way around in Vista and I not sure if I really like this new OS.I am very pleased that Toshiba decided to include a DVD drive on this model, it makes installing new software a whole lot easier than what i was use to before. This model is definitely an upgrade to my old M200. I am very impressed so far!! "
