It is pricey and its construction doesn’t inspire confidence, but you simply can’t argue with how incredibly portable it is. Yes, you can buy cheaper full-size laptops. True, you can get yourself more powerful ones. But the R500 is about delivering a decent computing experience in a casing you can carry in your hand all day, which few other machine can. For us, that makes it a winner."

Pros: It's light. The SSD Drive is ok but not any faster than a regular SATA drive.

Cons: Flimsy, keyboard is terrible to type on. Screen is not very good. Expensive I've been using it for 6 months and it has been to the repair depot 3 times. I find when I type quickly my fingers slip off the keys. It's not much fun to use for long. "

Strengths:Very light, very good screen, especially for outdoors and cars, solid sate disk.
Weaknesses:Heats up in the wrong place, health hazard if work continues for more than 15 minutes.
Summary:Toshiba produces the best and most reliable laptops. When I bought the Portege R200 2 years ago I was dreaming about a transflective LED screen and a solid state disk to avoid the frequent data losses common with regular HDDs. My dreams seemed to come true with the release of R500. Unfortunatly this model is unusable for serious work because they moved the processor and its fan too close to the front where your left hand is. The heat and the magnetic radiation measured with the TriField Broadband Meter show that this system is a true health hazard for your left hand, even if used on a desk. The keyboard is great - no flex. The screen angles are just fine. The battery life is about 5-6 hours with the power saver, medium brightness and wifi on. I am returning it back to Toshiba only because this system is a true health hazard. Very unfortunate - would be the best system around otherwise. I can only recommend this system to those who intend to use it 15-20 minutes at a time in a room cooled to 65 degrees or less."

Pros: extremely lightweight, ssd, 2 gigs of ram, dvd burner, fingerprint scanner, bluetooth, the works, dual core cpu (see con). Comes with Vista (bleh), but Toshiba has drivers for XP (yay!).

Cons: plastic case makes the laptop feel like a toy. Also, while this has a dual core cpu, it's a rather anemic one, processing power wise, so don't expect to do any heavy duty work on this. Touchpad is VERY sensitive. Doesn't come with re-installation media, Toshiba says to send in the hard drive in the event of a crash.

Other Thoughts: Definitely geared towards travelers on the go (light weight) that don't rely on much processing power. XP support is a definite plus."
